Steely Dan - A Tribute to Walter Becker (3CD)
The tragic news recently that Steely Dan partner, Walter Becker, had passed away at a still youthful 67, shocked those touched by the body of work left by this multi-talented musician and supremely gifted composer/arranger. Indeed, the outpourings of grief and loss from fellow performers, die-hard obsessives and casual fans alike illustrate the huge regard in which Walter - and indeed the group he co-hosted, on-and-off, for more than 45 years - was held. This 3 x CD box set celebrates and highlights the quite awesome music Becker with and without Steely Dan, produced during his career, featuring as it does live broadcast recordings from two different eras of Steely Dan: one from The Record Plant, Sausalito, CA in 1974, and the other from The Nissan Pavillion, Bristow, VA in 1996. Including too a disc of rare tracks by or featuring this sadly departed musical genius, this set will prove a must-have release for those to whom the name Walter Becker meant - and indeed still means - something special.
