Jerry Garcia - The Broadcast Archives (3CD)
As iconic a figure as any who emerged from the 1960s American counter-culture, Jerry Garcia is among the most beloved and respected musicians from the rock age. And while his work with the Grateful Dead requires little introduction, his other musical achievements, as a solo artist, a group member, one half of a duo, or - most notably - as leader and frontman of the Jerry Garcia Band, may be less familiar to the proverbial man-on-the-street, it remains just as potent, significant and downright entertaining. This triple CD collection celebrates Garcia's solo work, bringing together a trio of live recordings from the great man's golden era. Featuring, on disc one, a 1980 recording from JGB, recorded for live FM broadcast in Hempstead, New York in February 1980, on disc two another broadcast recording is included, this time of a show he gave with bass player John Khan in Santa Cruz in 1985. Concluding this superb collection, on disc three a concert by Jerry Garcia and bluegrass mandolinist David Grisman is featured, recorded in Garcia's spiritual home, San Francisco, in early 1991.
